Countries of Asia Quiz
Asia on this site begins where the convention says it does - Turkey, Cyprus and the Caucasus are in; Russia and Egypt are out - and runs east to the Pacific. Twenty questions, some asking what belongs, some asking what does not.
The western edge does the heavy lifting
Forty-nine countries file under Asia in this dataset, and nearly every disputed case lands on the Asian side of the ledger: Turkey, Cyprus, Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan all count as Asia in this countries of Asia quiz. Two big names go the other way – Russia files under Europe and Egypt under Africa – which makes both of them exactly the sort of answer a NOT question loves. East of that contested strip the continent is plain sailing all the way out to Japan, Indonesia and Timor-Leste.
Beware the Guineas
Guinea-Bissau appears in this bank as a country that is NOT in Asia, and it drags a whole family in with it. Guinea, Guinea-Bissau and Equatorial Guinea are all African; Papua New Guinea is Oceanian; not one Guinea is Asian. The nearest thing is the island of New Guinea itself, split between Papua New Guinea and Indonesia – and Indonesia, for quiz purposes, is Asia.
How to meet a NOT question
The impostors planted among Asian countries here come mostly from Africa – Liberia, Benin, Equatorial Guinea, Guinea-Bissau – with Barbados and Argentina flown in from the Americas, and the answer line names the impostor’s real continent whether you caught it or not. The reliable method is to test each option against one silent sentence – this country is in Asia – and pick the option that refuses the sentence. It is slower than instinct and beats instinct almost every time.
