Six of these twenty questions are about water - which ocean is biggest, smallest, deepest, where. The other fourteen hand you a country and ask which continent claims it, leaning hard on the ones people misplace.
The oceans, in the one order worth memorising
Pacific, Atlantic, Indian, Southern, Arctic – largest to smallest. The Pacific is not first by a whisker: it covers more area than every landmass on Earth combined, and it also holds the Mariana Trench, the deepest point in any ocean. The Atlantic is the water between the Americas on one side and Europe and Africa on the other. The Southern is the ring around Antarctica, the Arctic the small iced-over one at the top of the map. Hold that size order and most of the water questions in a continents and oceans quiz answer themselves.
Fourteen countries, six possible answers
Antarctica has no countries, so every country question here resolves to one of six continents. In the dataset behind this site those six divide 197 countries very unevenly: Africa holds 54, Asia 49, Europe 45, North America 23, Oceania 14 and South America 12. The skew is worth carrying with you – a country you cannot place is simply more likely to be African than anything else.
Placements that feel wrong and are not
Panama and the whole Caribbean file under North America: the convention runs Central America and the islands into the northern continent, which is how Trinidad and Tobago and Antigua and Barbuda end up sharing a continent with Canada. Iceland is Europe despite its mid-Atlantic address, and Papua New Guinea is Oceania.
